Things To Do After Installing Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver

1- Update The System

First you need to do is to update the system.

To do that: Launch a terminal window (ctrl+alt+t), and type the code (you can copy – paste the code):

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

2- Install Graphics Drivers

Open the “Software & Updates”, if you need:

Click “Additional Drivers” tab

Change it if you have any additional driver, install and apply.
That change will ask for your root password

3- Canonical Partners Repository

Go to Dash open the “Software & Updates
Click “Other Software” tab
Check the Canonical Partners options.
That change will ask for your root password and update the software sources

4- Enable “Minimise on Click”

To click on icon to minimise the app that opened window. How to enable it? To do that:
Launch a terminal window (ctrl+alt+t) and type the code (you can copy – paste the code):

gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock click-action 'minimize'

5- Ubuntu Restricted Extras Media Codecs Install

Ubuntu Restricted Extras is a package for playing most audio and video formats like playing MP3, MP4 and other media files and more. (codecs,
encrypted DVD playback)
Launch a terminal window (ctrl+alt+t) and type the following code (you can copy – paste the code):

sudo apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras libavcodec-extra libdvd-pkg

And follow the instructions on terminal.

6- How to Set the Fastest Repository

To set the fastest Ubuntu repo

Software & Updates > Ubuntu Software > Download from > Other > Select Best Server

Than Ubuntu will automatically test repos. After than you have to choose one of them.

7- Ubuntu 18.04 Gnome Tweak Tool Install

Launch a terminal window (ctrl+alt+t) and type the following code (you can copy – paste the code):

sudo apt install gnome-tweak-tool

8- Explore GNOME Extensions

Launch a terminal window (ctrl+alt+t) and type the following code (you can copy – paste the code):

sudo apt install chrome-gnome-shell

Than restart your Firefox. Go this page GNOME Extensions website. There are awesome extensions available.

9- Install Flatpak

Launch a terminal window (ctrl+alt+t) and type the following codes one by one (you can copy – paste the codes):

 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexlarsson/flatpak
 sudo apt update
 sudo apt install flatpak
 sudo apt install gnome-software-plugin-flatpak
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

To complete setup you have to restart your system. Now all you have to do go install some apps.

10- Add Your Online Accounts to Ubuntu 18.04

Open Settings > Online Accounts click to add which account or accounts you want to add. Google, Ubuntu one, Nextcloud, Facebook, Microsoft, Flickr, Pocket, Foursquare… accounts that you can easily add.

11- Install and Remove Applications from Ubuntu Software

In the Ubuntu Software Center, there are thousands of apps available for you to install and remove. All you need to do jut click on Install button. Or if it is installed just click on the remove button to uninstall it.

12- How to Enable or Disable Firewall on Ubuntu 18.0

By default the Firewall (UFW)is disabled. To check the firewall status:
Launch a terminal window (ctrl+alt+t) and type the following code (you can copy – paste the code):

sudo ufw status

If you see some thing like that: “Status: inactive” follow the code in terminal to enable it:

sudo ufw enable


Now to check the UFW status type again

sudo ufw status

If you see some thing like that: “Status: active” you did it :).

13- How to install Steam on Ubuntu 18.04

Steam is very easy to install with flak. To install it you have to do number 9 than go to this side and click to install. Just click to open with software center install.
